As we reported last month , the most recent Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) annual “ Graduate Enrollment and Degrees 2012-2022 ” report highlighted YoY enrollment contraction of -4.7 Because CGS does not include some of the institutions with the largest online enrollment in the country, I had some concerns about these data.

“Choosing to only offer classroom bachelor’s programs will not force students seeking online study to choose between an online program and your classroom program. Dr. More than one-third of prospective online students (the largest proportion) plan to enroll in such a program (see Table 7 below).

In order to assess the new 2021 data in comparison with pre-pandemic trends, I calculated the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2012 and 2019 for each of the formats students are choosing. Today’s data reinforce that for many institutions, growth will come hand in hand with the availability of online programming.
