From 2012-2018, the number of bachelor's degrees earned in the humanities fell by 27%. Much of that decline can be attributed to the Great Recession that began in 2008, during and after which students sought more career-oriented degrees to improve their employment prospects. But by 2013, that percentage had more than doubled.
