From 2012-2018, the number of bachelor's degrees earned in the humanities fell by 27%. Much of that decline can be attributed to the Great Recession that began in 2008, during and after which students sought more career-oriented degrees to improve their employment prospects. But by 2013, that percentage had more than doubled.

Philip’s College, a two-year institution, to pursue a Biomedical Engineering and Technology Associate’s. I kept recalling the summer of 2013 when I worked at an industrial lumber yard for eight hours daily in the blistering heat. I’m the first in our family to attend college and earn an Associate degree. My parents cried.
