In this post, were going to break down what you need to do if you recently received a waitlist offer from UT Austin, and what else you need to do to close out your college admissions experience strong. What they didnt have that year, or for many years prior, though, was a waitlist. However, that year is a little confusing.

What is legacy acceptance anyway? Based on the admissions at Harvard from 2010 to 2015, legacy applicants were admitted at a rate of 33% , higher than the overall acceptance rate of 6%. And for the Class of 2026, Princeton’s legacy acceptance rate stood at 10%. With an acceptance rate of just 4.5%

Over the past 20 years , the overall acceptance rate has decreased from 18% to a little over 6%. Most recently, 46% of the class was filled in the early decision cycle and the acceptance rate for that cohort was 19% , an all-time low for the university. This rise in exclusivity has impacted the waitlist process, too.

You’ve been waitlisted. It’s not a great feeling, but being waitlisted doesn’t mean you should wait. It’s important to understand why you might be on the waitlist, and understand what steps you can take to improve your chances of full acceptance. Or you could Google college waitlists. In fact, do the opposite.
