Since the 1950s, IvyLeague schools have been using a secret ranking formula called the Academic Index (AI). The Academic Index was designed specifically to regulate athletic recruitment (in the IvyLeague colleges, 15-20% of the first-year class is made up of recruited athletes for their sports teams).

This always makes us a bit, to use an SAT word, ~trepidacious~. This is more or less true at all schools, but especially at IvyLeague schools. Score big Just like hiring academictutors, legacy parents routinely work with top SAT and ACT tutors to ensure their students have a perfect or near-perfect standardized test score.
However, across the IvyLeague, the highest legacy rate we have ever seen is 30%. Since we have never seen an IvyLeague school accept more than 30% of legacies, that means at these top schools the majority of legacies don’t get in. Penn is super tight-lipped about legacy admissions numbers. What does this mean?
