For many colleges, a letter of recommendation from your counselor is required so schedule a 1-on-1 meeting so your counselor can learn more about you. Sign up in advance through the respective admissions offices for a campus tour. Your high school counselor can be a great resource if you are proactive so use them!

I took my own advice this summer and visited RIT with my son.

If you haven’t been to one and are considering signing up, they’re usually held in addition to campus tours in a place of significance on campus and they highlight specific programs, classes, and opportunities. How many letters of recommendation are required? Can I send additional letters of recommendation?

Reach out to the teachers you want to write your recommendation letters ; you may consider preparing a " brag sheet " to remind them of your achievements and what information might help them write the best letter. Summer before your senior year If possible, visit and go on campus tours of the schools on your college list.
