Free Summer School Skyrockets Retention for College Students at North Carolina HBCU

Fayetteville State University's (FSU) 30-60-90 Free Summer School Program offers students seven free credits per summer — a total of 28 credits over their college careers. The 30-60-90 program started in 2021, with COVID-19 federal relief funding. The school's retention rate jumped from 63.3% in the fall of 2020 to 77.7% in the fall of 2022. Two-thirds of the university's nearly 7,000 students are enrolled in summer courses.
