Remember, when you’re transferring, you’re applying for the spots of students who have already left, which probably signals that a lot of people really like being at Middlebury.

Transferring to Barnard is challenging – it’s essentially an Ivy League school, but the stats are promising. In 2023, the acceptance rate for first-year students was 6.5%, and for transfers it was 24.8%. If you want to transfer to Barnard, you need to have excellent grades and scores, robust extracurriculars, and great essays.

It’s also a really progressive school with a huge social justice focus. Pitzer’s first-year acceptance rate hovers in the low 20s, and their transfer acceptance rate is 10%. You can also transfer up to 64 credits (also unique!) This is not often offered to transfer applicants. That isn’t a lot of spots! That’s an order.

This signals to us that people are like, really happy at Scripps, since so few spots open up each year for transfers. Last year, they saw an 8% acceptance rate for first-year students, and their transfer acceptance rate was 9.4%. For 2022-2023, 170 students applied to transfer to Bowdoin, and only 16 were admitted. On their website, they say “we generally receive between 150-200 transfer applications, and we admit five to twenty candidates.”

Out of the all-women’s schools, Wellesley is one of the more competitive ones in the bunch, with a first-year acceptance rate of around 14%. If this sounds like your jam, you might be considering applying as a transfer. Bryn Mawr had a 31% acceptance rate for first-year students last cycle, but their transfer acceptance rate was 25%. Because Bryn Mawr has so few students, that means not that many students are leaving, which in turn means fewer spots for hopeful transfers.
