Direct admissions programs are gaining momentum as the solution to bring efficiency to the admissions process on both sides. Once limited to state-run programs, direct admissions programs are now widely available—but the jury is still out on impact for most.

We recently surveyed university presidents, provosts, and VPEMs to quantify the challenges institutions face in growing enrollment in graduate and adult-serving programs.

In other words, they haven’t yet created an enrollment management plan for grad programs akin to the strategic enrollment management (SEM) plans most institutions develop for their undergrad programs. External forces such as these are just one reason why a GEM plan is critical to the success of graduate programs.
Despite these fluctuations, one thing remains evident: university leaders are prioritizing graduate and adult-serving programs and enrollment.
